Kathleen Mantell (Katie)

Kathleen (Katie) Mantell, PhD, is a Senior Systems Engineer at Inspire Medical Systems since June 2023, with extensive experience in biomedical engineering and electrical engineering. Previously, Kathleen served as a PhD Candidate in the Alexander Opitz Lab at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where research focused on the impact of 3D finite element model components and physiological accuracy on transcranial magnetic and electric stimulation outcomes. Projects involved comparing simulation results across species, modeling pediatric stroke scenarios, and simulating clinical protocols for working memory enhancement. Prior roles include an Electrical Engineering Intern at Minnetronix, Inc., where a tool for simulating feeding tube insertion was developed, and an Electronics and Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin. Educational credentials include a PhD in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
