Matthew Rooney

Matthew Rooney has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Matthew started their career as an IAESTE intern at Olympus Optical Company in 2002. Matthew then worked as a Fluid Mechanics Intern at Schlumberger from 2003 to 2004. From 2005 to 2011, they served as a Mechanical Engineer at STFC. In 2008, they had a Media Fellowship with Times Higher Education, where they wrote science policy stories. Matthew enrolled in the MPhil Technology Policy program at Cambridge Judge Business School in 2011. In 2017, they served as an Energy Policy Research Fellow at Policy Exchange, where they authored and co-authored reports and had additional responsibilities such as writing research proposals and chairing events. Matthew also worked as a Contributing Writer for www.businessgreen.com and completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge. Since 2018, Matthew has been working at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, initially as an Engineering Policy Adviser and currently as the Head of Policy.

Matthew Rooney began their education by pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Queen's University Belfast from 2000 to 2005. After graduating, they obtained a certification as a Chartered Engineer and became a full Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in January 2010. Later on, in 2011 and 2012, Matthew continued their education by completing a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Technology Policy at the University of Cambridge.
