Gonçalo Bernardes

Gonçalo Bernardes has a diverse range of work experience in the field of chemical biology and pharmaceutical biotechnology. Gonçalo is currently a Professor of Chemical Biology at the University of Cambridge, where they have held various positions since 2013, including Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. Additionally, they have served as a Group Leader and Royal Society University Research Fellow. Bernardes is also the Head of Translational Chemical Biology at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular, where they have been Director of the Chemical Biology and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Unit. Gonçalo is a Fellow of Trinity Hall College and has held roles as a Senior Fellow at Flagship Pioneering. Bernardes has also been involved in several entrepreneurial endeavors, co-founding TargTex and serving as Scientific Director, Co-founder, and Chairman of the Board of Directors. In the future, they will be a Co-founder and CTO of Proteotype Diagnostics and a Scientific Advisor for FHC Group. Additionally, they have served as a Scientific Advisor for Transition Bio, Inc. and was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Neoleukin Therapeutics. Prior to these roles, Bernardes was an EMBO Fellow in Cancer Research at ETH Zürich.

Gonçalo Bernardes earned their Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Lisbon between 1999 and 2004. Gonçalo then pursued their D.Phil in Chemical Biology at the University of Oxford from 2004 to 2008.
