Steve Payson

Steve "Remo" Payson serves as the Humanitarian Assistance Branch Chief at HQ AFRICOM since April 2024. Prior experience includes roles with the US Government and EUCOM, where Payson sought positions in Stuttgart. As a Freelance Writer at AWWANL, Payson contributed from August 2021 to January 2023. Prior to that, Payson held significant positions at the Naval Postgraduate School, including Director of the Center for Security Cooperation Support and Deputy Director of the Research and Sponsored Programs Office. From July 2006 to June 2014, Payson worked as a Sr Analyst at CENTRA, providing analytic support to various government agencies. Payson's military career in the US Air Force spanned from 1984 to 2006, concluding as a China-Taiwan military/political advisor. Academic credentials include a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, a Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies from the University of Maryland, and a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from the US Air Force Academy, alongside ongoing studies for a Master's Degree in Data Analytics at the University of Maryland Global Campus.
