Fernando Vargas is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in competitiveness, technology, and innovation, currently serving as a Senior Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank since September 2018. Vargas has held various roles at the bank, including Specialist positions and has previously contributed as a consultant focused on productivity and innovation in the service industry in Latin America and the Caribbean. With a strong background in research and academia as a PhD Fellow at UNU-MERIT, Vargas has been involved in significant projects such as the SmartEIZ initiative. Additional experience includes serving as an external advisor to the CEO of Corfo, lecturer at Universidad Diego Portales, and various advisory roles in governmental organizations. Vargas holds a PhD in Economics of Innovation from Maastricht University, as well as a Master's in Applied Economics and a degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de Chile.
