Declan Abernethy

Declan Abernethy has a diverse work experience starting in 2013 as the owner of DAPPRoductions. In 2015, they became a Clinical Research Assistant at Pinellas Park Dermatology & Diseases of the Skin. From 2016 to 2017, they served as the Vice President of Training at Cayuga's Watchers, a student-run non-profit organization. In 2016, they also worked as a Legislative Intern at the US Congress. In 2018, Declan joined the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Doctoral Candidate and later became a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Declan was also a Blended and Online Learning Design (BOLD) Graduate Fellow from 2022 to 2022. In 2020, they worked as an Academic Tutor at the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. Starting in 2022, Declan became the Head Soccer Coach at Inter Atlanta FC.

Declan Abernethy began their education at St. Petersburg High School International Baccalaureate Program from 2010 to 2014. Declan then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology and Society at Cornell University from 2014 to 2018. During their time at Cornell, Declan also took an affiliate student program at UCL in 2017, focusing on Science and Technology Studies.

After completing their undergraduate studies, Declan joined the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Sociology from 2018 to 2019. Declan continued their education at Georgia Tech by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the History and Sociology of Technology and Science, which they are currently pursuing.

In addition to their formal education, Declan has obtained various certifications. These certifications include the Tech to Teaching Certificate from Georgia Institute of Technology in April 2023, the National D certification from the U.S. Soccer Federation in March 2023, the Grassroots 9v9 In-Person License from the U.S. Soccer Federation in February 2023, and the 2022 Blended and Online Learning Design Graduate Fellowship from Badgr (now part of Instructure) in June 2022. Declan also holds Grassroots 11v11 In-Person and Online Licenses, a Trained Coach certification from the U.S. Center for SafeSport, an Associate membership with the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning Network obtained in April 2022, and an American Heart Association Certified CPR Provider certification from the American Heart Association | American Stroke Association.
