Michael Kern has extensive work experience in the field of education and student support services. From 2006 to 2009, they worked as a Teacher at Isidore Newman School. Michael then pursued further education and became a Doctoral Student in School Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University from 2009 to 2014. After that, they worked as a School Psychology Predoctoral Intern at Deerfield High School from 2013 to 2014. Michael continued their work in this field as a Postdoctoral Intern at Deerfield High School from 2014 to 2015. From 2015 to present, Kern has been employed at Interlochen Center for the Arts, initially as a Learning Specialist and School Psychologist and more recently as the Director of Student Support Services. Additionally, they also worked as a Counselor at Challenges Summer Program from 2004 to 2019 and as a Predoctoral Intern at Illinois School Psychology Internship Consortium from 2013 to 2014.
Michael Kern obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Education from Washington and Lee University in the years 2002 to 2006. Michael then pursued their higher education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where they earned a Master of Education in School Psychology from 2009 to 2013. Continuing their studies at the same institution, Michael received a Doctor of Philosophy in School Psychology from 2009 to 2014. Michael'shigh school education was completed at Isidore Newman School from 1989 to 2002. Additionally, Michael has obtained several certifications, including being a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Michigan since 2016 and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist since 2014. Michael also holds a School Psychologist Provisional Certificate from New York since August 2014, and they are expected to receive a School Psychologist Certification from Illinois in the future. Michael has yet to obtain an Elementary General Education, K-6 certification in Virginia.
