Santiago Alba-Corral

Director, Agriculture & Environment at International Development Research Centre

As interim director of IDRC’s Agriculture and Environment program, Santiago Alba-Corral oversees research that seeks to promote sustainable agricultural productivity, animal health, nutrition, healthy food systems, and adaptive solutions to climate change.

Santiago joined IDRC in 2017 as associate director of Food Security. Previously, he was the senior director of international development at CARE Canada. He has also led research and programs teams at Action Contre la Faim and for the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation. Santiago holds a master’s degree in international agriculture development from Cornell University, a graduate diploma in environmental audits from the European Social Fund, and a bachelor’s degree in agriculture engineering from the University of La Rioja in Spain.
