Bárbara Willaarts

Bárbara Willaarts is a Senior Research Scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) since January 2017 and serves as a Senior Researcher at ICATALIST S.L since January 2022. Previously, Bárbara Willaarts worked as an Independent Senior Consultant for the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. Experience also includes roles as a Research Fellow at CEIGRAM- Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, a consultant at the International Food Policy Research Institute, and Bioversity International, as well as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Water Observatory Think Tank-Fundación Botín. Educational qualifications include an MSc in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University & Research, a PhD in Environmental Planning from Universidad de Almería, and a BSc in Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Research expertise encompasses regional hydrological and land use modeling, socio-economic valuation of ecosystem services, and integrated management plans for protected areas, coupled with experience in teaching and communicating scientific results.
