Maria Coelho

Maria Coelho is an accomplished economist currently working at the International Monetary Fund since September 2017, specializing in tax policy within the Fiscal Affairs and Eastern divisions of the African Department. Previous experience includes a role as an Associate at Cornerstone Research and a Ph.D. candidacy at UC Berkeley with research focused on macroeconomics and public finance. Additional notable positions include a PhD Trainee at the European Central Bank, where Maria conducted research on fiscal policy within the European Monetary Union, as well as a Research Assistant at the International Monetary Fund and various analyst roles at HSBC Securities. Maria holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics-Political Science from Columbia University.
