Jose Maria started their career at Vodafone as a GSM Engineer, where they supported the Operation and Maintenance Group and played a key role in the administration of the regional Vodafone GSM/GPRS network. Jose Maria later moved onto working at UNDP as a Telecommunication Engineer, where they managed a modernization program for Hondutel, focusing on extending access to ICTs and improving service quality.

Following their time at UNDP, Jose joined Inter-American Development Bank as an ICT Specialist, where they designed and implemented the ICT strategy for the "Database of Indigenous Professionals" project. Jose Maria also worked as an Infrastructure Specialist, providing technical support for the "Initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America," with a focus on ICT projects.

Currently, they are working at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), where they have held various positions. Jose Maria started as a Policy Analyst, providing strategic advice to senior management and coordinating the analysis of technological, regulatory, and market trends.
