Monika has held various leadership roles at organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union, World Health Organization, and WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. Monika has demonstrated expertise in promoting universal connectivity, sustainable digital transformation, and improving people's work and lives. Monika has also played a key role in coordinating communication activities during public health emergencies, such as the Zika virus outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, they have contributed to strengthening governance in tobacco control and advocating for gender and women's health. Additionally, they have experience in managing social media teams, developing governance policies, and busting mis- and dis-information. Monika has successfully coordinated marketing and sales efforts for international clientele, including Fortune 500 corporations. Monika has a strong background in project management and has negotiated partnerships and managed communication and advocacy projects. Their extensive work experience demonstrates their proficiency in communication strategy, capacity building, reputation management, and influencing policy for better health outcomes.
Monika Gehner has a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Communications from Wayne State University, which they obtained in 1991. Monika also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Business Administration and Management from Reutlingen University, earned in 1990. Additionally, they have completed an Executive Master's degree in International Negotiation and Policy-Making from the Geneva Graduate Institute in 2015. Monika Gehner has also pursued further education in Leadership in Crises at Harvard Kennedy School. Furthermore, they have obtained several certifications, including Certified Board Member (Switzerland) from ZfU Zentrum für Unternehmungsführung AG, Leadership and Change Management and Leadership, Women and the United Nations from the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC), Moderne Unternehmensentwicklung durch den Verwaltungsrat/VR from ZfU Zentrum für Unternehmungsführung AG, and Systemic Coaching from Metasysteme Coaching ME.
