Josey Kamanda

Researcher - Innovation Scaling And Agribusiness Acceleration at International Water Management Institute (IWMI)

Josey Kamanda, PhD, serves as an Innovation Scaling Scientist at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) since June 2024, focusing on climate-resilient livelihoods through innovation systems and partnerships. Previously, Kamanda was a Technical Advisor for Food Security and Livelihoods at Save the Children International (2022-2024), where collaborative program development was emphasized. As the TAAT Compact Leader at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT (2019-2022), Kamanda coordinated initiatives to implement climate-smart bean varieties. Prior roles include Innovation Systems Scientist at the Africa Rice Center (2016-2018) and researcher at Wageningen UR (2015), with earlier positions focusing on institutional innovation and market-oriented development at ICRISAT and management roles in sales and finance. Kamanda holds a PhD in Social and Institutional Change in Agricultural Development from the University of Hohenheim, an MSc in Technology Management from the University of Surrey, and a BSc in Agricultural Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
