Chris Freeland is an experienced library and information science professional currently serving as the Director of Library Services and Director of Open Libraries at the Internet Archive since December 2017. Previously, Freeland held positions at Washington University in St. Louis as Associate University Librarian and Senior Director of University Academic Computing from August 2012 to November 2017. Freeland's expertise in biodiversity informatics was developed during tenure as Technical Director at the Biodiversity Heritage Library and as Director of the Center for Biodiversity Informatics at the Missouri Botanical Garden from 2009 to 2012. Freeland's career includes roles in application development and web programming at various organizations, along with an educational background including a Master of Library & Information Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia and advanced degrees in Biological Sciences and Environmental Biology from Eastern Illinois University.
