Mek Karpeles serves as the Program Lead for OpenLibrary.org at the Internet Archive, overseeing the largest open-source digital library catalog since April 2016. Karpeles is also an Affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, focusing on how technology and policy can enhance library services in a digital age. Previous experience includes founding and leading Hackerlist, Inc., a consultancy of over 250 software engineers, and holding executive roles at Hyperink and Ark.com. Karpeles has a foundational background in AI, machine learning, and natural language processing, having conducted research as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Delaware. Educational qualifications include a BS in Computer Science from the University of Vermont.
