The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners champions an industry dedicated to support global energy networks by delivering safe, efficient and environmentally sound transport services for oil, gas and chemicals.

Its Members lead the continuous improvement of the tanker industry's performance, striving to achieve the goals of zero fatalities, zero pollution and zero detentions. They deliver the highest quality services and promote the availability and use of personnel with the best marine skills and competencies.

INTERTANKO actively works on a wide range of operational, technical, legal and commercial issues affecting tanker owners around the world. It draws on direct contact with its Members and stakeholders to identify, develop and disseminate information and best practice, essential to the tanker industry. The Association works as a Forum where Members meet and share information with each other and the wider industry, an Advisor for Members providing guidance on issues affecting their operations and interests; and a Champion that speaks on behalf of and acts for independent tanker owners.

A recognised Non-governmental Organisation, INTERTANKO has observer status at the IMO, UNCTAD and IOPC Funds, contributing actively to their work.
