Jonathan Hirokawa

Jonathan Hirokawa has a diverse work experience starting from their role as a Perception and Action Teaching Assistant at Vassar College. Jonathan then worked as a Student Research Assistant in Evolutionary Robotics at Vassar College. After that, they joined the Fly Olympiad Project at Howard Hughes Medical Institute as a Research Technician II, where they organized and ran behavioral assays for fruit flies. Jonathan also designed components for the FlyBowl and developed an automated fly pupae counter. Jonathan then worked as a Research Assistant at Boston University, where they helped lift a new project off the ground by designing a robotic platform for testing underwater acoustic imaging algorithms. Jonathan later joined Rockefeller University as a Mechatronics Engineer, providing engineering support for neuroscience research. Jonathan used rapid prototyping tools and performed tasks such as fabricating parts and coding. Jonathan also participated in The Data Incubator's fellowship program, where they focused on applying machine learning algorithms and building web scraping tools. Their most recent work experience includes roles as a Data Engineer at ACTEGA Coatings & Sealants, where they developed computer vision algorithms and built a data infrastructure, and at Sea Machines Robotics, where they managed all things data, including leading data migration to Google Cloud Platform and managing access to cloud resources. Currently, they are working as a Senior Data Engineer at InterVenn Biosciences.

Jonathan Hirokawa completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Cognitive Science from Vassar College between 2006 and 2010. Jonathan then pursued a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, graduating between 2012 and 2014. Additionally, they obtained a PADI Open Water Diver certification in July 2007.
