Sonya E. is a Postdoctoral Scientist at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) since September 2021. Previously, Sonya served as a Lecturer at Stanford University in early 2018, focusing on biology, ecology, and fungal research while supervising lab personnel. As a Graduate Research Assistant at Stanford from 2012 to 2017, Sonya conducted a thesis on microbial community structure influenced by soil moisture and hosts, designing experiments and analyzing complex data. Additionally, Sonya gained experience as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a Research Technician at Mid Sweden University, specializing in dendrochronology and forest fire reconstruction. Early research work also included a role as a Biological Science Technician with the U.S. Forest Service, involved in surveys and ecological assessments of forest structures. Sonya holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and English from St. Olaf College and a doctoral degree from Stanford University.
