Andrew Piper

Senior Physicist, Systems Integration at IonQ

Andrew Piper has a diverse work experience. Andrew currently holds the position of Senior Physicist, Systems Integration at IonQ starting from June 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at The Ohio State University from August 2015 to April 2022. During this time, they conducted research on attosecond extreme ultraviolet (XUV) pulses and their impact on non-sequential double ionization (NSDI) in Helium. Andrew designed and built a novel XUV interferometer for data collection, managed a significant budget, and mentored junior graduate and undergraduate students. Before their research assistant role, Andrew served as a Camp Director at Owasippe Scout Reservation for six weeks in 2015, where they oversaw a staff of 30 scouts/scouters and managed a program for 300+ scouts and leaders. Additionally, they worked as a Lab Assistant at the University of Notre Dame from October 2012 to May 2015, focusing on precision spectroscopy of Cesium D-Lines and contributing to a publication. In 2014, Andrew also served as an Assistant Camp Director at Owasippe Scout Reservation, where they provided training, evaluated staff, and mentored junior staff members.

Andrew Piper completed their education in physics by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from The Ohio State University in 2022. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Physics from the same university between 2015 and 2017. Andrew's undergraduate studies in physics were completed at the University of Notre Dame, where they received a Bachelor of Science degree from 2011 to 2015. During their undergraduate years, they also had the opportunity to study abroad at the University of Oxford for the academic year 2013-2014, further emphasizing their pursuit of physics. Andrew's formal education began at Northside College Preparatory High School, where they graduated in 2011. Additionally, Andrew expanded their knowledge beyond their formal education by obtaining certifications in Quantum Fundamentals from Q-CTRL in December 2022 and completing a Data Science Bootcamp at The Erdős Institute in June 2020.
