Michael Leland

News Director at Iowa Public Radio

Michael Leland has a strong background in journalism and broadcasting, with over 30 years of experience. Michael began their career as a reporter/anchor at 700 WLW-AM (ABC Affiliate) in 1988. Michael then moved on to Voice of America, where they served as a newscaster, program host, and later as the Chicago Bureau Chief from 1992 to 2002. In 2002, Michael joined Michigan Radio as the News Director until 2006. Michael then worked at Wisconsin Public Radio in the same role until 2015. Currently, they are the News Director at Iowa Public Radio, a position they have held since 2015.

Michael Leland completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication and Business Administration from Curry College from 1983 to 1985. Michael then pursued a Master of Science degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Kansas State University from 1985 to 1986.
