Gerard Alonso

Gerard Alonso is an IT Infrastructure Engineer at IRB Barcelona. Prior to their current position, they worked as a Senior IT Analyst at QAD from November 2018 to November 2021 and as a Technical Support Engineer at EMC from June 2015 to August 2018.

In their role as Senior IT Analyst at QAD, Gerard applied their technical expertise using standard operating and diagnostic protocols to resolve standard to moderately complex system level issues that were negatively impacting product performance at EMC customer sites. Gerard also identified, documented and escalated customer issues, and effectively communicated procedural and technical issues to internal and external customers in a fast paced and customer critical environment.

As Technical Support Engineer at EMC, Gerard was responsible for sharing all acquired knowledge concerning problem resolution with the Field and, as appropriate, to Customers. Gerard also contributed to centralized problem identification and resolution database, assisted in problem recreation and failure analysis of systems level issues, and recommended and utilized a wide variety of test equipment, diagnostic tools and techniques used in problem resolution. Additionally, Gerard provided documentation and direct feedback to Field Technical Specialists, Account Managers, Sales and other EMC Technical Support co-workers as appropriate.

Gerard Alonso has a background in computer science and telecommunications engineering. Gerard holds an engineer's degree from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and has various certifications from Dell EMC and Red Hat. Gerard currently works as a systems administrator and network engineer.

They are on a team with Venancio Jimenez - IT Support Specialist, Rodolfo César Scorians - Systems Administrator, and David Villanueva - Systems Administrator. Gerard Alonso reports to Ramon Roca-Sastre, Head of ITS.
