Nick Winkelman, PhD has an extensive work experience in the field of athletic performance and science. Nick began their career in 2005 as a Strength Coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Gulf Coast League. In 2007, they joined EXOS in Phoenix, AZ as the Director of Training Systems and Education, where they oversaw the development and execution of various educational initiatives. In 2016, they joined the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) as the Head of Athletic Performance & Science.
Nick Winkelman, PhD, has an education history that includes a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Health Promotion and Wellness with a focus on Motor Learning and Sprinting from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (2012-2016). Nick also holds a Master of Science degree in Strength and Conditioning from Edith Cowan University (2008-2010) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Exercise and Sports Science from Oregon State University (2002-2006).
In addition to their formal education, Nick Winkelman has obtained several certifications. Nick holds an EXOS Performance Specialist Certification (XPS) from EXOS, obtained in August 2014. Nick is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS*D) and a NSCA- Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT*D), both obtained from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The CSCS*D certification was obtained in May 2006, while the NSCA-CPT*D certification was obtained in 2003.
