Irish Water Safety
Dr. Joanne Walsh serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Water Safety Ireland since November 2022 and holds a board member position as treasurer with the Association of Chief Executives of State Agencies since April 2024. With extensive experience in public health management and decision-making, Dr. Walsh was previously the Principal Officer of the Rural Water Unit at the Government of Ireland from September 2019 to November 2022 and held a similar role at the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection from January 2014 to September 2019. Dr. Walsh’s medical career includes roles as a Medical Assessor with HSE and as a General Practitioner in various capacities. Academic qualifications include a Master's in Business Administration from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School and multiple medical diplomas from esteemed institutions, showcasing a blend of healthcare and business expertise.

Irish Water Safety
Irish Water Safety is the statutory body established to promote water safety in Ireland. Our role is to educate people in water safety best practices. We develop public awareness campaigns to promote necessary attitudes, rescue skills and behaviour to prevent drownings and water related accidents.
