Laurelle Funk

Laurelle Funk has a diverse work experience spanning different roles and industries. Laurelle is currently the Director and Senior Legal Counsel at Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority since May 2023. Prior to that, they worked at the same organization as an Associate Legal Counsel, Manager Contracts, Policy and Standards. Laurelle also has experience as a Contracts Specialist at Island Health. Before joining Island Health, Laurelle worked as a Corporate Legal Counsel at Westerkirk Capital Inc. from May 2017 to February 2020. Laurelle handled various corporate regulatory matters, legal documentation, and corporate legal projects and transactions. Laurelle also served as the Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Enerflex Ltd. from September 2012 to May 2017. In this role, they managed corporate communications, regulatory compliance, risk management, and investor relations. Laurelle implemented a centralized governance structure for the company and its subsidiaries. Prior to that, Laurelle worked as a Senior Solicitor at Paramount Resources from June 2007 to August 2012, performing corporate secretarial duties and maintaining minute books. Other experiences include working as In House Counsel at Enterra Energy Trust, and as a Summer Student, Articling Student, and Associate at Gowling, Lafleur, Henderson LLP. Laurelle also has prior experience as an Elementary School Teacher and English Instructor.

Laurelle Funk holds a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Alberta, which they obtained in 1996 through their Distinction After Degree Program. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor's Degree in Arts from the same university in 1993, with a major in Anthropology and a minor in Political Science. In 2002, they received a Bachelor's Degree in Laws (LLB) after attending Dalhousie University and the National University of Singapore. Laurelle recently obtained certification as a Certified In-house Counsel (CIC.C) from the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management Executive Programs in 2021.
