Peyami Çelikcan

He was born on 25.12.1961 in Ankara. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Communication, Radio, Television and Cinema Department in 1986. In 1987, he started to work as a research assistant at Gazi University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema. In 1988, he went to the United States with the Presidency of Higher Education Scholarship for Postgraduate Education, and in 1990 he received his master's degree in Communication Arts from the University of West Florida. In 1994, he completed the 9 Eylül University Fine Arts Faculty Stage and Visual Arts program and earned his doctorate in cinema-television. He received the title of associate professor in 1996 and professor in 2004. Çelikcan, who undertook administrative duties as head of department, dean, and vice-rector at different universities, was appointed as the Rector of Istanbul Şehir University in 2017. He is still working as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Istinye University. Çelikcan, who gives lectures at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in the field of communication, has given seminars in the education programs of various institutions and organizations at the international and national levels. He gave seminars and organized workshops on "News Broadcasting" to Palestinian Maan Agency reporters, "Television Broadcasting" and "Documentary Production" for Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kosovo State TV programmers. Çelikcan, who also took part in various projects on adult education, directed some of the educational films of the Non-Formal Farmer Education Project (YAYÇEP) prepared on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs and broadcast on TRT, and the Visual Parent Education Project (UNICEF-GABEP) educational films prepared for UNICEF. Continuing his work in the field of cinema and television, Çelikcan has made many productions as a documentary director and copywriter. Specializing in cultural documentaries, Çelikcan has followed the traces of Turkish culture and history and shot documentaries covering the geography of Central Asia, Anatolia, and the Balkans. Çelikcan, who was the text writer and general director of the 13-part documentary titled From Kazakhstan to Hungary, In the Footsteps of the Eren, completed in 2000, shot the three-part documentary "Kyrgyz" in 2006. "13 episodes" in 2007 Çelikcan, who continues in the fields of cinema history, popular music and documentary cinema, also works in the field of addiction and takes part as a consultant in international projects related to the subject. Lastly, he was the consultant of the "Drug Awareness on Adults (DAWAP)" project carried out by the Green Crescent in partnership with NGOs struggling with addiction from four countries, carried out within the scope of ERASMUS+. Çelikcan, who also serves as the Chairman of the Green Crescent Science Board, is a member of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (NECS), and International Documentary Association (IDA).
