Joan Llobera has had a varied career in research and technology. In 2020, they took on two roles; Senior Researcher at Artanim, a research institution conducting projects in close collaboration with Swiss and international universities, as well as industrial partners, and Chief Technology Officer at IZI RECORD, a company dedicated to helping live musicians reconnect with their audiences and find new revenue streams. From 2015 to 2020, they were the CEO of Timepath, a startup company focusing on delivering a new approach to deliver interactive narratives in virtual reality. From 2015 to 2020, they were also a Senior Researcher at i2CAT Foundation and from 2012 to 2015, a Scientific Collaborator at Agalma Foundation. From 2013 to 2011, they were a Researcher at the Immersive Interaction Group (EPFL) and the Laboratoire de Neurosciences Cognitives (EPFL). From 2009 to 2007, they were a Researcher at the EVENT Lab and Starlab. From 2005 to 2007, they were a Freelance Video Editor.

Joan Llobera's education history includes a PhD from the Universitat de Barcelona between 2006 and 2012 in Virtual Reality, a Master's degree in Software Engineering from UPC - Facultat Informatica in 2005, a period of study at EHESS - Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, an Engineer's degree in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Télécom Paris between 2003 and 2005, and a period of study in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at UPC - ETSETB TelecomBCN.
