Jacob Durazo

Genomics Research Associate at J. Craig Venter Institute

Jacob Durazo has a diverse work experience. In 2022, they worked as a Genomics Research Associate at the J. Craig Venter Institute, where they focused on studying the genomics of infectious diseases caused by fungal and bacterial pathogens. Their responsibilities included conducting Crispr/Cloning experiments, understanding virulent factors, and studying fungi and bacterial morphology and growth factors. Jacob also contributed to promoting inclusivity in genomics and medical testing through outreach programs.

In 2023, Jacob joined UC San Diego as an Instructional Assistant, where they taught undergraduate students in the biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory course BIBC 103. Jacob helped students learn various techniques such as protein and nucleic acid purification, centrifugation, chromatography, electrophoresis, and immunological and enzymatic methods.

From 2018 to 2023, Jacob worked as an Executive Sales Consultant at Rodan and Fields, where they specialized in personal skincare consulting.

Jacob Durazo attended MiraCosta College from 2017 to 2019, where they studied neuroscience. Following this, they went on to UC San Diego from 2020 to 2022, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in neurobiology and neurosciences.
