Alexander Hiland

Alexander Hiland is an accomplished academic with extensive experience in debate and communication. Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since August 2022, Hiland also holds the position of Assistant Director of Debate at James Madison University since 2017. Prior roles include Graduate Instructor and Debate Coach at the University of Minnesota from August 2011 to present, and Director of Forensics at Texas Tech University from September 2021 to September 2022. Hiland's educational background includes a PhD in Communication and Media Studies and an M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Minnesota, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Political Communication from the University of Northern Iowa.
