Carolina Caffaro

Executive Director, CMC at Janux Therapeutics

Carolina Caffaro has a long and impressive career in the biotechnology industry. Carolina began their journey in 1998 as an undergraduate student at the University of Buenos Aires, where they described the presence of an active glucosylceramide synthase in the Plasmodium falciparum intraerythrocytic stages and synthesized a fluorescent probe to study the glycosphingolipid pathway. In 2001, they became a graduate student at the University of Buenos Aires/Boston University, where they discovered a nucleotide sugar transporter of C. elegans that transports two different nucleotide sugars in a simultaneous and independent manner. In 2007, they became a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley, where they applied atomic force microscopy and optical tweezers to the elucidation the mechanochemistry of SpoIIIE and the design principles that optimize its operation. In 2008, they were a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University School of Medicine, where they discovered a novel parasite enzyme required for parasite cyst wall glycosylation and persistence of chronic infection. From 2012 to 2014, they worked at Agilent Technologies as an Applications Scientist, where they studied changes in iPSCs plasma membrane during differentiation by quantitative fluorescence microscopy and worked with bioinformatics scientist to extract quantitative data from fluorescence live microscopy. From 2015 to 2020, they worked at Synthorx Inc in various roles, including Senior Director of Early Stage CMC and Protein Sciences, Associate Director, Principal Scientist, and Scientist. In 2020, they became the Head of CMC at Synthorx, a Sanofi company. Since 2021, they have been the Executive Director and Senior Director of CMC at Janux Therapeutics.

Carolina Caffaro obtained a Biochemist degree from the University of Buenos Aires, School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, with a major in Microbiology & Immunology, between 1995 and 2000.
