Jazz Empowers
Andrew Johnston is the Executive Director and Founder of Jazz Empowers, a position held since January 2014, focusing on daily operations, strategic planning, community engagement, and fundraising. Prior to this, Andrew served as a Teacher with Teach For America from June 2012 to June 2014, where curriculum development included the region’s first upper-level math and piano curriculum for the Greater Nashville area. Andrew's earlier experience as an Administrative Assistant at the Jazz Institute of Chicago involved writing press releases and leading a project for a mobile website. Educational credentials include a Master's of Education in Instructional Practice from Lipscomb University and a Bachelor's of Music in Jazz/Jazz Studies and Performing Arts Management from DePaul University.

Jazz Empowers
Jazz Empowers is a national nonprofit organization with the mission to transform the lives of youth in underserved schools through jazz education. We fulfill this mission by partnering with underserved schools across the country to start and develop jazz programs at their school. Jazz Empowers currently serves 1400 K-12 students in 26 states, all of which attend schools that serve low-income communities.
