Ian Kopp

As the Director of Health, Safety, Security & Environment for the JDS Group of Companies, Ian provides direct oversight to the HSSE programs for each of the JDS companies. Ian has over 25 years of industry experience focusing on industrial construction and mining projects. Early in his career he worked as a paramedic and had extensive experience as a first-aid and rescue instructor, which served to strengthen his belief that it is far better to prevent accidents than to manage them. Ian first worked with JDS during the construction of Minto Mine in Canada’s north and he continues to travel the world supporting the project teams in planning and delivering large projects for successful completion. He works closely with both JDS Senior Management and Project Management to ensure that each Business Unit is able to meet the high standards set by the JDS Group of Companies. In addition, he leads JDS HSSE Services in providing auditing, program development, and site support to many of our industry partners. Regardless of the setting, Ian strives for continuous health and safety improvement, and is known for his signature brand of calm, diligent work ethic, and a bit of humour thrown in to keep it enjoyable.
