Job description

Who we are

Jellyvision ALEX®, is on a mission to improve lives by helping people choose and use their benefits. We are raising the bar—for benefits and the employee experience (for our employees and those of the customers we serve) – by scaling personalization, compassion and an earnest intent to be helpful in all that we do.

Jellyvision people are a group of creative problem solvers who use good judgment, give each other honest feedback, engage in real debate, and snack frequently. We are curious, hungry, and humble—because we know this is how we’ll continue to make an impact. We’re kind, biased towards action, and sweat the details to create great experiences for those we serve.

We are an inclusive, human-first workplace. Respect and trust for each other are foundational, and our equitable total rewards offerings support the lives and holistic well-being of our unique people. At Jellyvision, expect career experiences that challenge you, empower you to have a direct impact on our mission, and enable you to learn, try, and do while having fun along the way.

What’s the role?

You’ll lead a team of creative strategists that are hyper-focused on expanding and improving the ALEX experience across all channels. A key voice in the process of product development and enhancement, you’ll be the owner of the Jellyvision spark: an irreplaceable and important component of every ALEX engagement. You’ll understand the deep and detailed pain our users feel when choosing and using their benefits. Equally, you’ll understand the deep and detailed pain our customers feel in trying to convince employees to care about said benefits.

You’ll define and own the initial processes that help delivery teams scope, design, prototype, test, and iterate swiftly and accurately. You’ll empower teams to rely on usage data, user feedback, market need, and growth potential to make more confident design decisions. You’ll model processes for failing fast and recovering with vigor so teams become more comfortable with creative experimentation. You’re a player-coach, hip deep in content creation and able to help Product Managers quantify the ROI for all things spark.

What you’ll do to be successful

Develop & Lead the Team

    • Develop and lead a small team of creative strategists. This includes the usual day-to-day people management tasks: career development, performance evaluation, team building, etc. As well as challenging the status quo and helping to grow influence all around Jellyvision.
    • Create the bar and help your people exceed it.
    • Continually refine product development processes to make sure they’re producing work that lives up to those standards. When they’re not, be ready and willing to try something new.
    • You need to be able to get a team moving excitedly in the same direction. You’ll often depend on your communication skills to convince people of your vision or create early versions of content to model what “great” looks like.
    • We’ll measure this through speed of PDLC phases, speed and quality of testing, quality of business cases

Bring the Spark & Define the ROI

    • The ultimate decision-making around design (UX, UI, and the philosophies/strategies/tones/constructs with which we engage our users around their money and well-being) will live with you.  You’ll be responsible for said design meeting the needs of the business in a way that is buildable by tech, implementable by production, and as cost effectively considered as possible.  ·
    • Establish, maintain, and evangelize ALEX brand and quality standards so teams know how to define high quality, on-brand work.
    • Develop strong working relationships across the Revenue organization to closely align the ALEX brand and spark with the customer-facing Jellyvision brand. Work with sales to incorporate spark and delight in every customer touchpoint.
    • Work closely with Strategy and Product leadership do develop the ROI behind our spark-based decisions.
    • We’ll see success with the success of the Strategic Roadmap, customer feedback on delight, and feature adoption

Swift Iteration & Solid Testing

    • Work with the team to spec out, design, prototype, and test new creative product concepts and messaging strategies.
    • Work with Strategy and Delivery leadership to suggest and evaluate technical architecture and design choices with cost/benefit information and an ROI-driven approach. Make sure every initiative meets a business need while remaining cost-effective and technically feasible.
    • Ensure creative/product decisions have been thoroughly vetted and validated via customer and user research so we’re always ahead of industry trends and changing user expectations.
    • Establish expectations for both stakeholder and peer creative review, involving yourself as much or as little as needed to make sure teams are producing quality, stress-tested work while maintaining a sense of ownership and autonomy.
    • We’ll measure this through the speed of progression through the Product Development Life Cycle, the addition of new features to the Strategic Roadmap, and the quality of testing to inform the next decision. Risk and failure is part of the game here: we call it learning.

Make Some Magic

    • You enjoy learning from our customers, our users, our teams, our products, and the world around you – you can’t help but think about why something is the way it is.
    • This role isn’t for the faint of heart. You should be excited by new adventures, driven to make a meaningful impact with customers, motivated by doing great work, and not easily deterred by obstacles that may come your way.
    • We’re going to break some eggs and stomp on some toes. We’ve all got steel-toed boots over here and short toes.
    • We’ll measure this by customer feedback, trial and error, and when ideas get greenlit.

Experience & skills you’ll need

  • 12+ years experience as a design professional with relevant portfolio demonstrating best-in-class work
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills and a proven ability to justify design choices and promote a design thinking culture throughout Jellyvision

  • An understanding of behavioral science concepts that can support the work we’re building and make sure work is as “sticky” as possible: a student of people and of great design and effective communications
  • A quick pulse on current and emerging web and mobile interaction design trends, with deep experience and instinct on when to bring it in and when to admire it from afar
  • Understanding and expertise in web-based information architecture, user-centered design methods, and current web technologies
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe CC, Sketch, or equivalent
