Karen Feinstein has extensive work experience in the non-profit sector. Karen served as the President and CEO of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation starting from 1991. In this role, they managed a major regional healthcare foundation and oversaw various projects that provided community health services to the underserved. Karen also established and chairs a regional consortium to improve medical practice quality and safety.
Prior to that, Karen worked at the United Way of Allegheny County, starting in 1985. Karen initially served as a Senior Vice President, overseeing a large staff and managing annual allocations of $20 - $25 million. During their time there, they received six national awards for excellence. In 1989, they additionally took on the responsibility of leading the organization's giving program for major donors.
Karen Feinstein earned their B.A. degree in American History from Brown University from 1963 to 1967. Karen then pursued their M.S.W. degree in Social Planning at the Boston College School of Social Work from 1967 to 1969. Karen went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Social Welfare Policies and Economics from The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, studying from 1976 to 1983.
