Matthew Epperson

Matthew Epperson has a strong background in the aerospace industry, with their most recent role as Flight Research Software Lead at Joby Aviation starting in 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Joby Aviation starting in 2022.

Before joining Joby Aviation, Matthew worked at Kitty Hawk as a Controls Engineer from 2018 to 2022. Matthew also had previous experience at Kitty Hawk as an Intern in 2017.

Matthew gained valuable research experience as a Research Intern at Planck Aerosystems in 2017 and as a Robotics Intern at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 2016.

Matthew also completed internships at the Naval Postgraduate School, where they focused on designing cooperative resource allocation algorithms for deconflicting airspace, developing GUIs for safety critical missions, and exploring path planning algorithms for ground robotic vehicles and quadcopters. During their internships at the Naval Postgraduate School, Matthew worked on various projects related to UAV control and performance optimization.

Matthew Epperson has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. Matthew also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Computer Engineering from the same university. Additionally, they have a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC San Diego.
