Energy Storage And Distribution System (esds) Test Lead Engineer at Joby Aviation

Matthew Gonzalez, PhD has a diverse work experience in various roles related to battery research and engineering. Matthew is currently working at Joby Aviation as a Senior Battery Test Engineer. Previously, they worked at AMP as a Battery Lab Manager, where they focused on battery systems R&D and developed pack and fleet level battery analytics. This involved analyzing charging signal generation, battery management systems (BMS) data, and cloud-based data management. Matthew also performed research on battery aging conditions and detection of defected cells for V2X operations.

Before joining AMP, Matthew worked as an Engineering Consultant & Analyst, providing techno-economic analysis and market assessment for carbon fiber production technology. Matthew modeled the cost, energy consumption, and emissions of carbon fiber and identified potential markets and business models for its commercialization.

In their earlier career, Matthew held multiple positions at UC San Diego, including SPEC Commercial-Scale Battery Fabrication Line Manager, Laboratory Chemical Manager, Lab Group "Social & Recruitment Chair," Graduate Researcher, and Graduate Teaching Assistant. In these roles, they managed battery fabrication lines, handled laboratory chemical inventory and ordering, organized group events, conducted research on carbon fiber projects, and assisted in teaching heat transfer.

Matthew also gained research experience as a Student Researcher at The Johns Hopkins University's Nano Energy Laboratory, developing synthesis methods for battery materials. Additionally, they participated in an International Research Experience for Students (IRES) program at imec.

During their time at Oaks Christian School, Matthew served as an Assistant Waterpolo Coach, assisting with coaching and leading the Junior Varsity team.

Overall, Matthew Gonzalez, PhD has a strong background in battery research, engineering, and analysis, with expertise in battery systems, carbon fiber production, and nanomaterial synthesis.

Matthew Gonzalez, PhD, obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Nanotechnology from UC San Diego between 2016 and 2021. Prior to that, they completed a Master's degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, both at The Johns Hopkins University. Further information about the start and end years of these degrees is unavailable.
