Product Lead - Air Taxi Products at Joby Aviation

Matthew Schwegler, also known as Schwegg, has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Matthew is currently working at Joby Aviation as a Product Lead for Air Taxi Products, a role they began in January 2021. Prior to that, they were a Product Manager for Elevate Cloud Services at Uber from March 2019 to January 2021.

From December 2017 to March 2019, Matthew was the Director of Product Management at AirMap. Matthew also held the positions of Senior Product Manager from April 2017 to December 2017 and Product Manager from August 2016 to April 2017 at AirMap.

Before their experience in the aviation and technology sectors, Matthew worked at UC San Diego as a Computer Science Tutor and Resident Advisor. As a Computer Science Tutor, they mentored students in subjects such as Data Structures and Digital Systems Lab. Matthew also served as a Resident Advisor, where they provided support and organized community-building events.

Matthew gained industry experience as a Software Engineering Intern at Google in 2015. During their internship, they worked on recommender systems and search for Play Movies Search and Discovery Team, conducting A/B testing and implementing query classification algorithms.

Additionally, Matthew had a research internship at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, where they extended Kepler, an open-source software package for manipulating and displaying 3D/2D MRI images. Matthew also coordinated intradepartmental research and integrated MRI image manipulation into an online portal.

In 2010, Matthew interned at the National Institutes of Health as a Psychology Intern, conducting research on Glucose Regulation and Attention. Matthew published their work in Psychology & Behavior and implemented data management SAS scripts to improve data entry efficiency.

Before their professional career, Matthew co-founded Night Club Diplomats, a company that connected individuals with quality experiences in the Las Vegas nightlife industry. Matthew maintained relationships with major Las Vegas venues and organized events for international clientele.

Matthew's early career included working as an Air Traffic Controller in the United States Air Force at Nellis AFB. Matthew provided radar Air Traffic Control instructions for a high volume of military operations.

Matthew Schwegler (Schwegg) has a diverse education history. Matthew obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from UC San Diego between 2011 and 2016. Prior to that, they earned an Associates of Arts Degree in Psychology from the College of Southern Nevada from 2007 to 2009. Matthew completed their high school education at Coronado High School, receiving a High School Diploma in 2005.

In addition to their formal education, Matthew has several certifications. In 2018, they obtained a Private Aircraft Pilot certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In 2017, they earned a SPORT PILOT certification, also from the FAA. In 2016, they obtained a REMOTE PILOT certification from the FAA. Matthew also holds a PADI Divermaster certification from PADI, obtained in 2016. Their other certifications include Wilderness Advanced First Aid from the National Outdoor Leadership School (obtained in 2012), Disaster Service Worker from the County of San Diego (obtained in 2011), and an Air Traffic Control Certification from the FAA (obtained in 2006).
