Tianye Chen has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. They began their career in 2014 as an Electric Engineer for the MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team, where they were involved in manufacturing solar cell modules, building solar arrays, and thermoforming light covers. In 2016, they worked as a Flight Controls/Product Development Intern at Boeing. The following year, Tianye joined Tesla as an HV Battery Electronics Intern, designing PCBs, performing pack level tests, and debugging BMS electronics. They also had a brief role as a Duo Skin Undergraduate Research Assistant at the MIT Media Lab.
In 2017, Tianye became a Co-Director at DynaMIT, a role they held until 2017. They also worked on Firmware Engineering as an intern at Joby Aviation in 2018, developing testing suites and firmware in C, and GUI development in Python. Later that year, they became a Research Assistant at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), conducting research until 2019. Finally, Tianye returned to Joby Aviation as a Software Engineer in 2019, where they currently work.
Tianye Chen completed their education at three institutions. They attended Lincoln East High School from 2010 to 2014, achieving no specific degree or field of study. Subsequently, they enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2018, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Finally, they pursued further education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2018 to 2019, successfully obtaining a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in the field of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
