Thomas Mangione

Director, Survey Research at JSI

Tom Mangione has over 45 years of experience iusing all modes of survey data collection. For 22 years he has been project director of one of JSI’s longest running projects, a national observation study of life jacket wearing behavior among recreational boaters funded by the U.S. Coast Guard. Tom has directed more than 100 projects in program evaluation including a study following 600 clients in residential or ambulatory treatment facilities and a needs assessment of clients in substance use treatment programs in the areas of homelessness, AIDS risk behaviors, and domestic violence.

Tom has published textbooks on survey data collection methodology and has taught survey research methods at Harvard and Boston University's Schools of Public Health. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan and worked as a graduate assistant for five years at the Institute for Social Research's Survey Research Center.
