Branville G. Bard Jr.

Branville G. Bard Jr. is the current Vice President of Public Safety at Johns Hopkins University. Branville has held this position since December 2021. Prior to their current role, Bard served as the President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) from January 2019 to December 2021. NOBLE is an organization that was established to ensure equity in the administration of justice and to serve as the conscience of law enforcement by being committed to justice by action.

Bard began their law enforcement career in 1993 as an Inspector with the Philadelphia Police Department. Branville served in this role for 22 years before being appointed as the Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety for the Philadelphia Housing Authority Police Department in February 2015. Bard served in this role for two years before moving on to become the Police Commissioner for the Cambridge Police Department in August 2017. Branville served in this role for four years before taking on their current position at Johns Hopkins University.

Throughout their career, Bard has been a strong advocate for progressive policing and social justice. Branville is nationally renowned for their work in these areas and is committed to ensuring that all members of the community are treated fairly and equally under the law.

Branville G. Bard Jr. has a Doctorate in Public Administration from Valdosta State University, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University, a Master of Science in Public Safety Management from Saint Joseph's University, a Public Leadership Certificate from Harvard Kennedy School, and an Executive Education Certificate from Harvard University. Branville also has a Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy #227 in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from the University of Virginia, a Certificate in Law Enforcement Management from the Senior Management Institute for Policing, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration from Alvernia University. Finally, they have an Associate of Applied Science in Justice Studies from the Community College of Philadelphia.
