Johns Hopkins University
Thomas Kempa is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University since July 2015, leading the Kempa Group, which focuses on solid-state materials and devices essential for advancements in energy conversion, optoelectronics, and biophysical probes. Previously, Thomas served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemistry at Harvard University from January 2013 to June 2015, where novel long-range electrochemical patterning was utilized to develop lithography methods, and catalysis in electrically-active inorganic scaffolds was studied. Prior postdoctoral experience includes a position at MIT from July 2012 to January 2013, characterizing transition metal-oxide catalysts within electrically-active inorganic scaffolds. Thomas obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University in April 2012, where research involved gas-phase synthesis and characterization of nanowires for photonics and solar cells. Education includes a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Boston College and studies at Imperial College London.
