Dr. Tamara Thomas

Executive Director Of School Improvement And Support at Johnston Co Schools

Dr. Tamara Thomas started their work experience as an Aspiring Principal at NYC Leadership Academy in 2005. From 1997 to 2008, they worked at the NYC Department of Education, initially as a Department Chair & Teacher and then as the Founding Principal of Frederick Douglass Academy VIII Middle School. Dr. Tamara then joined National Heritage Academies as an Education Administrator from 2008 to 2013. From 2013 to 2015, they worked as an Education Administrator at Wake County Public School System. After that, they served as the Director K-12 at Durham Public Schools from 2015 to 2017. Dr. Tamara then worked at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as an Instructional Review Coach/Educational Consultant from 2017 to 2019. From 2019 to 2021, they held the position of Director of School Improvement at Johnston County Public Schools, and from 2021 to 2022, they served as the Executive Director of School Improvement and Support at the same organization. Currently, they are working as a Professor of Leadership Doctoral Program at Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary since 2022.

Dr. Tamara Thomas obtained their BA in Music/French from Hamilton College in 1995. Dr. Tamara then pursued an MA in Music Therapy from New York University from 1995-1997. In 2003-2004, they attained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in School Administration & Supervision from Mercy University. Dr. Tamara'smost recent educational achievement is a Doctor of Ministry degree from Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary, completed from 2018-2021.
