Orthopedic Assistant at Jordan-Young Institute

Derek Joyner, a Hampton roads native, has been working with Dr. Nicholas Midis and the Jordan-Young Institute since January 2015. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He also stays active playing softball, baseball, basketball, and other outdoor activities. He is a graduate of Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. He served as the head student athletic trainer for the college football, basketball, and baseball teams. He was also a collegiate student athlete on the baseball team all four years as a pitcher. After graduating from Emory & Henry, he continued to pursue a Master’s degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Orthopaedic Assistant Studies, where he graduated with highest honors. Upon completion of his Master’s degree and earned the credential of OA-C, he also obtained the credential of Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) from Meridian Institute of Surgical Assisting in Nashville, Tennessee. Derek has been Orthopaedic specifically trained in all aspects of surgery and clinic relating to various sub-specialties including Sports Medicine, Total Joint Replacement, Spine, and Trauma. He looks forward to helping you as a patient receive the best possible care as if you were a member of his own family.
