Leon van Heerden has worked in various roles since 2012. From 2012 to 2015, they were a Strategy, Planning & Programme Management Intern at British American Tobacco. During this time, they were also a Research Assistant at Stellenbosch University. In 2015, they became a Project Management Intern at OE54, an American project management start-up based in San Francisco and Cape Town. Their role there focused on US government aid contracts in Africa. In 2016, Leon began working at JourneyApps, where they held the roles of Marketing Manager, Content Creator and Marketing Analyst, Business Development Associate, and Sales Development Representative.

Leon van Heerden completed a BcomHons Business Management degree with a focus in Marketing/Marketing Management from Stellenbosch University in 2014. Prior to this, they completed a BA (Value and Policy Studies) degree from Stellenbosch University in 2013, with a focus in Knowledge Management. Leon van Heerden's educational history began at Union High School, Graaff-Reinet, where they attended from 1997 to 2008. Leon van Heerden has also obtained a number of certifications, including HubSpot Marketing Software from HubSpot Academy in June 2021, HubSpot Reporting from HubSpot Academy in May 2022, Google Analytics for Power Users from Google in October 2019, Google Analytics for Advanced Users from Google in September 2019, Google Analytics for Beginners from Google in August 2019, and Inbound Marketing Certified from HubSpot Academy in August 2019.
