Heather McCartney

Director, Dance Education & Family Programs at The Joyce Theater Foundation

Heather McCartney is the Director of Dance Education & Family Programs at The Joyce Theater Foundation. Prior to their current position, they served as the Co-Director of Arts in Education & Community Programs at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater from July 2006 to June 2012. In this role, Heather was responsible for budgeting, procuring, programming and managing services for over 4,500 students and adults annually in over 50 schools and community programs in the tri-state area. Heather reported directly to the Executive Director and worked closely with Artistic Director Emerita, Judith Jamison, producing a series of informal chats for The Ailey School and general public. Heather also managed bookings for Ailey student performing groups, mentored four high school and college students each year, and piloted and designed a dance fitness residency for seniors with Harlem Hospital Center. Heather collaborated within the organization regarding marketing, external affairs and other entities with vested interest in arts education.

From September 2013 to July 2014, Heather served as the Director of Performance Programs (I.A.) at Community Works. In this role, Heather was responsible for developing and managing all aspects of performance programming for the organization. This included developing curricula, coordinating rehearsal schedules, booking venues, and managing budgets.

From February 2013 to February 2017, Heather served as an Arts in Education Consultant for Camille A. Brown & Dancers. In this role, Heather provided arts education consulting services to Camille A. Brown & Dancers, helping them to develop and implement their arts education programming. Heather also worked with the organization to create educational materials and resources, and to evaluate and assess their arts education programs.

Heather McCartney has a Bachelor of Science in Dance Education from New York University and a Master of Education in Education/Teaching of the Gifted and Talented from The College of New Rochelle.

They are on a team with Samantha Fernandez - House Manager, Lisa Gendell - Box Office Manager, and Andy Sheagren - Director of Marketing. Their manager is Linda Shelton, Executive Director. and Marianne Rose Weber - Dance Education & Family Programs Assistant reports to Heather McCartney.
