Colette Yates, Esq. has been working in the legal field since 2010, when they opened their own firm, Yates Law. Prior to that, they conducted research in the College of Arts and Science at Miami University, studying patterns of neurological response to different stimuli in rabbits under Dr. Best in 2003 and conducting statistical analysis of findings in human behavioral research under Dr. Lani in 2002. Colette also headed studies of play and social behavior of North American River Otters at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in 2005 and aggression and social interaction in Black and White Ruffed Lemurs at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden in 2004. In 2018, they joined Klarna as a Senior Compliance Specialist, assessing regulatory intelligence, including impacts in privacy law and AML, overseeing privacy law policies for compliance, handling US Licensing maintenance and applications nationwide, handling licensing and regulatory obligations in NMLS, and being the point of contact for regulators regarding licensing matters. Colette also conducted legal analysis of internal policies and projections, assisted in internal investigations, drafted legal documents, conducted data analysis, designed a compliance training program, and handled conflicts of interest. Colette was also chosen as part of a small team tasked with designing and implementing an organizational system for all legal and compliance materials throughout the entire organization. In addition, they served as the GDPR specialist, designing the GDPR organizational system and retention policy, reviewing recent case law, making appropriate policy recommendations and action plans, handling data requests, investigations and incident reporting, and authoring original legal and procedural documents for the department. In 2022, they joined Juni as Legal Counsel.

Colette Yates, Esq. obtained their Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School in 2009, specializing in Contract, Privacy, Estate and Trust and Employment law, Negotiations, Legal Writing, and Legal Research. Colette obtained their Psychology Degree and Anthropology Degree from Miami University in 2004, specializing in Animal Cognition, Neuroscience, Behavioral Sciences, Statistics, Primatology, Linguistics, and Culture. In 2010, they obtained their Attorney certification from the State of Ohio, and in 2012, they obtained their Notary Public certification from the State of Ohio.
