Marie Cruz

Marie Cruz has a diverse work experience in the fields of quality engineering, test automation, and developer advocacy. Starting in 2013, Marie worked as a Test Consultant at Sogeti. Marie then moved on to QAWorks in 2015, where they held the positions of Technical Test Engineer and later Senior Technical Test Engineer. At QAWorks, Marie provided test services to various clients and implemented BDD processes, while also training others in automation tools. From 2017 to 2019, Marie worked at ECS Digital as a QA and Continuous Delivery Consultant/Test Architect, focusing on improving software quality and driving continuous testing. Marie also acted as a Test Architect and led a team of QAs to ensure product quality and championed the importance of test automation. Marie then joined News UK as a Principal Test Automation Engineer in 2019, where they set up testing strategies and improved quality in various projects. Marie introduced developer-friendly testing tools and aimed to break down barriers between developers and testers. In the same year, Marie also became an #IamRemarkable facilitator, hosting workshops and advocating for women and underrepresented groups in the workplace. In 2020, Marie became a Cypress Ambassador, where they shared their expertise in using Cypress on their projects. Most recently, in 2021, Marie worked at Zoopla as a Quality Engineering Manager, responsible for quality leadership and continuous improvements in the Home domain. Marie mentored direct reports, introduced team-owned testing processes, and championed quality within their product team. Currently, Marie is working as a Developer Advocate at k6, where they help developers and testers by educating them about performance testing and promoting the use of k6 as a tool. Marie bridges the gap between the community and the company.

Marie Cruz completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Mass Communications majoring in Digital Media from St. Paul University in Quezon City. Marie attended from 2006 to 2008. Later, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Science with Business Management and Accounting from Queen Mary, University of London, which they completed from 2010 to 2013.

In addition to their degrees, Marie Cruz obtained several certifications. In 2013, they received the ISEB Certified Tester Foundation certification from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. The following year, in 2014, they obtained the ISEB Intermediate Certificate in Software Testing from the same institution. In 2019, they obtained the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
