Joshua Akers

Joshua Akers is an accomplished research manager currently employed by the Mid-America Regional Council since March 2023, with dual roles as a partner at Urban Praxis LLC since August 2018, focusing on legal research related to housing discrimination and property markets. With extensive academic experience, Joshua Akers served as an associate and assistant professor in Geography and Urban and Regional Studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn from September 2013 to May 2023. Additionally, Joshua Akers directed the Urban Praxis Workshop and was a founding member of the Property Praxis Research Collective, both emphasizing community-driven research and the impact of speculation on urban environments. Previous roles include research scientist at the University of New Mexico and journalist positions at the Albuquerque Journal and Associated Press. Joshua Akers holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Toronto and a B.A. in American Studies from the University of New Mexico.
