Alán Aspuru-Guzik is a Professor of Chemistry and Computer Science at the University of Toronto since July 2018, previously serving as a Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University from July 2006 to June 2018, where leadership was demonstrated in a research group focused on theoretical chemistry's intersections with physics, computer science, and applied mathematics. Prior roles included Associate Professor, directing a research group of over 20 students and postdoctoral researchers in quantum information and chemistry relevant to renewable energy materials, as well as Assistant Professor in the same department. Early career experience includes postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley under Martin Head-Gordon and significant research during graduate studies at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where a quantum Monte Carlo program was developed and recognition for academic excellence was achieved. Alán Aspuru-Guzik obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
