Andrew Van Horn has a diverse work experience in scientific research and tutoring. Andrew is currently a Summer Science Scholars and Independent Research Team Lead at Dr. Joan L. Slonczewski Bacteria Lab, where they design and executes experiments using flow cytometry to study multidrug efflux pump selection. Andrew also mentors high school students in microbiological experiments. In addition, Andrew has worked as a Microbiology Research Assistant at Kenyon College and as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Dr. John L. Payton's Analytical Chemistry of Biological Systems Research. Andrew has also served as a Lead Tutor at Kenyon College, where they provided tutoring and mentoring in subjects such as statistics and biology. Andrew's future plans include a PVARF Fellowship in Dr. Ruth J. Napier's Autoimmunity Lab at Portland VAMC, where they will investigate the relationship between autoimmunity and microbial pathogenesis.
Andrew Van Horn attended West Linn High School from 2017 to 2021. Andrew then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular Biology with a minor in Statistics at Kenyon College from 2021 to 2025. During their time at Kenyon College, they also participated in a visiting student program at UCL in 2024, where they focused on Infection and Immunity. Additionally, Andrew obtained the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy - Spanish from the State of Oregon in 2021.
