Thomas R. Alvarez

Thomas Alvarez, CPA, MBT has over 28 years of experience in various roles related to tax planning and compliance. Thomas started their career as a Tax Staff at PwC in 1988 and worked there until 1991. From 1991 to 1994, they served as the Tax Director at Ancra International Corporation, where they were responsible for running the Tax Department and formulating global tax policies. Thomas then worked as a Senior International Tax Manager at Occidental Petroleum from 1994 to 1997. Thomas Alvarez joined PwC again in 1997 and worked as a Senior Tax Manager until 2004. From 2013 to 2020, they served as a Senior Manager CPA; MBT at BGBC Partners, LLP, specializing in cross-border transactional tax issues, mergers and acquisitions, and state and local tax planning. Thomas then worked as a Director at FORVIS from 2020 to 2022, focusing on tax planning and compliance for manufacturing and distribution companies and private equity investment vehicles. Currently, Thomas Alvarez is working as a Director at Ketel Thorstenson, LLP, starting in November 2022. Their expertise lies in various industries, including retail, manufacturing, distribution, the Brewery and Winery Industry, commercial and rental real estate, construction, entrepreneurial start-up companies, and oil and gas investments. Thomas also has significant experience in international tax issues.

Thomas Alvarez, CPA, MBT holds a Master of Business Taxation degree from the University of Southern California. Thomas also obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State University-Sacramento. In addition, Thomas is a Certified Public Accountant certified by the states of Indiana, California, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
